So What is Coaching?


It is just what it sounds like!  A coach can help you perform better in life, business, and personal situations.  This is done through a series of conversations that involves trained listening techniques, usually on the phone, while coaching performance from a client in a supportive, confidential environment, which focuses on growth and change to achieve the life that you desire, instead of just hoping for it happen.

What is the difference between consulting and coaching?

  • Consultants advise their clients on how to solve problems.
  • Coaches guide their clients to their own solutions.
  • Consultants focus on results.
  • Coaches focus on people.
  • Consultants are hired to produce a certain outcome.
  • Coaches are hired to support the client to achieve.

What is the difference between therapy and coaching?

  • Therapists work with clients that need professional to work towards healing, recovery, or issue resolution.
  • Coaching works with clients who want a detached partner to help them evolve and enhance their lives.
  • Therapists are experts in behavioral and medical sciences trained to treat and diagnosable conditions.
  • Coaches see their clients’ brilliance, strengths and areas in need of development and are trained to support the client
    as they achieve a certain desired outcome.
  • Therapists are required to keep their personal feeling and thoughts removed.
  • Coaches use personal disclosure as a way to catalyze and challenge their clients.

Things to know before hiringyourcoach

  • Learn what you can about coaching before making the move toward hiring a coach.
  • Training is important! Find out what kind the coach has had and where we received it from. 
  • Make sure the coach has a coach.  We should always be practicing what we are preaching.
  • Shop around.  Ask friends for referrals and check with associations, such as the ICF, and local affiliates.
  • Always get a sample initial session for no cost to determine if this relationship is going to be a good fit. 
    A good coach will offer this for their benefit as well as yours.
  • Ask for references or read the testimonials from current and past clients to make sure the message that comes through resonates with you.
